VDI - Functional safety DIN EN 61508 and ISO 26262

Your customer requires a warranty extension? You have challenges regarding functional safety or warranty management? Do you need safety and reliability analyses?

Functional safety (FuSi) is considered to be that part of the overall safety of a technical system that depends on the correct and flawless functioning of the safety-related system.

The area of functional safety generally includes the requirements of a component or system to correctly fulfil its safety-related task according to the risk to be covered.

This must also be done when internal errors or failures occur - or a correspondingly defined safe state must be assumed. The complex of functional safety has become increasingly important in all technical areas in recent years and decades.

Content

For the area of functional safety, there is a basic safety standard in the form of DIN EN 61508, which covers the functional safety of safety-related electrical, electronic and programmable electronic systems.

It has its origins in plant engineering and the process industry.

The term "safety-related" in this context applies to any programmed system in which a fault (alone or in combination with other faults) can result in injury or death to people, catastrophic damage to the environment or destruction of property.

With the introduction of DIN EN 61508, a cross-sector guideline was created for all safety-related systems. In the meantime, sector-specific derivatives of the metanorm have been derived for many areas. In the automotive sector in particular, we have many years of experience in numerous projects for all safety integrity levels.
