ID 419: Problem Solving in 8 Disciplines (8D) – User Training

This two-day training teaches the extensive implementation of problem solving with 8D, along with collectively applicable, supporting quality tools. You will acquire the competencies you need to sustainably use the specific tools of problem solving and successfully lead problem-solving teams.

In addition, evaluation of maturity level of the quality of 8D reports will be explained as well as roles, responsibility and team dynamics and also error culture, motivation and leadership are topics to be discussed.

 

Aim

By this training:

  • You will be familiar with the changes to the previous volume and the risk assessment in the context of 8D.
  • You will be familiar with decision criteria for the application of 8D.
  • You will be familiar with the relationship between symptom and technical root causes and how to systematically identify root causes.
  • You will be able to use tools and techniques (Is/Is not, Ishikawa, 5-Whys) and the 8 Disciplines in a sustainable way.
  • You will know how to successfully lead problem-solving teams.
  • You will know about the selection and effectiveness of corrective actions as well as preventive actions (differentiation from lessons learned).
  • You will be able to create an 8D report in a technically correct manner.

Content

The training alternates between technical presentations and group work. Group work promotes the transfer of what has been learned into your own working practice. Special emphasis is placed on the exchange of experiences regarding 8 steps:
D1 - D3: From problem awareness to containment actions
D4 - D5: From root cause to corrective actions
D6 - D8: From implementation of corrective actions to team acknowledgement

Prerequisites for participation

  • First experience in problem solving.
  • Basic knowledge in the application of quality methods.

Target audience

Personnel serving as problem-solving experts (e. g., 8D team managers, 8D method experts or 8D facilitators)

Qualification Certificate

After passing the knowledge test (multiple-choice test), you will receive a certificate of qualification.
